Originally founded in 1966 as a family-owned and operated VW store, Rule Auto grew to become Staunton's premiere Honda, VW and RV dealer. Throughout the years it has remained a family business. Mr. Rule's late son, Billy, took the helm until his untimely death in 2008, at which point Sally Rule stepped in to help her father run things.

In the Summer of 2010, Mr. Rule decided to fully retire. He wanted to ensure that his employees were well cared for and that the dealership would remain family and community-focused. So he called Carter Myers and Liza Myers Borches, owners of Carter Myers Automotive - a group of family-owned dealerships serving Central Virginia since 1924.

On October 1, 2010, Rule Auto became VALLEY VW and VALLEY HONDA.
