Tire Blowout: What to Check Your Tires For

Avoid a tire blowout by regularly checking all of your tire’s pressure. Do not forget to check the spare tire too. A good routine to get into is to check the tires monthly on the same date and always check the tires before a road trip.

If you notice one tire is not holding air, it may have a pinhole leak. A leaking tire can blowout suddenly. Tires with worn treads are prone to blowouts. To check the tread on a tire, take a penny and stick Lincoln’s head into one of the grooves. Make sure the top his head is pointing towards the center of the wheel. If his head is still covered by some of the rubber, it’s probably okay. If you can see the top of his head, the tread is thin. It is time for new tires.

Our service technicians here at Valley Volkswagen in Staunton, VA can check your car’s tire pressure and inspect the tread for you. If you need new tires, they can recommend ones to fit your budget and driving style.
